Job Title: Janitorial Associate
Status: Regular, full-time (with benefits)
Reports to: Facilities Director & Facilities Supervisor during Shifts
Building Bridges Across the River (BBAR) provides residents East of the Anacostia River access to the best-in-class facilities, programs, and partnerships in arts and culture, economic opportunity, education, recreation, health, and well-being. Building Bridges Across the River (BBAR) envisions a future in which the residents East of the Anacostia River experience vital, thriving communities characterized by social, cultural, economic, and racial equity. In order to combat past and current structural inequities, BBAR develops and manages facilities and programs in Wards 7 and 8 including the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), THEARC Farm, THEARC Theater, 11th Street Bridge Park, and Skyland Workforce Center. BBAR’s first facility was THEARC, which at 203,000 square feet represents the largest social service, multisector, nonprofit collaboration in the country.
The Janitorial Associate under the supervision of the Facilities Director and Shift Supervisor performs those cleaning tasks necessary to meet janitorial specifications.
Empty, clean all waste receptacles, and remove waste paper and rubbish from the premises to designated area; damp wipe receptacles as necessary.
Vacuum all rugs and carpeted areas in offices, lobbies, and corridors.
Hand dust and wipe clean all office furniture, files, fixtures, paneling, windowsills, and all other horizontal surfaces.
Sweep or dust mop floors, all private stairways, and vacuum if carpeted.
Damp-mop or clean any spillage in the office, stairwells, and public areas as required.
Damp dust all ceiling air conditioning diffusers, wall grilles, and other ventilating louvers.
Dust the exterior surfaces of lighting fixtures, including glass and plastic enclosures.
Follow all safety and personnel rules and regulations.
Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs.
Stock and maintain supply rooms
Stock and maintain all restrooms
Cooperate with the rest of the staff
Follow all health and safety regulations
Perform other duties as assigned.
Proven working experience as a janitor
Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
Familiarity with Material Safety
Integrity and the ability to work independently
3+ years janitorial experience
Willingness to work early morning or late-night shifts
Ability to work well under minimal supervision
Capacity to take direction
Strong attention to detail
Physically capable of lifting and moving objects up to 30 pounds as necessary
High school diploma/GED required
Washington, DC (Preferred)
This is a full-time position with an hourly rate starting at $15 an hour. BBAR is an equal opportunity employer.
